Camping

Excellent camping sites with well serviced National Parks camping facilities can be accessed directly by ferries from Cardwell. This totally eliminates any need to carry camping gear any distances once on the island.

MACUSHLA on Hinchinbrook Island is a superb camping ground set amongst casuarina trees and overlooks Missionary Bay, Mt. Bowen and Goold Island. There are great walking tracks (up to 12 kilometres) which lead off to magnificent ocean swimming beaches and access some of the most spectacular tropical rainforest the island has to offer. This campsite is a popular fishing destination.

GOOLD ISLAND is just a few kilometres north of Hinchinbrook Island and boasts an ideal campsite on a long sheltered beach with views towards Dunk and the Family Group of Islands. This remote location offers oyster gathering, fishing and swimming.

Facilities at Macushla and Goold Island are well serviced and maintained and include ample tables and chairs, free gas BBQ, shelter shed, water tank and toilet.

GARDEN ISLAND is the only island in the area that is not a National Park and does not require a permit for camping. It is a beautiful island offering sandy beaches, good fishing and oystering and can be walked around at low tide in less than an hour. There are no facilities on this island.
